We had our first school assembly today. The students learned about some new expectations we will be following when we go to assemblies. They did a fabulous job being respectful, safe, and responsible.
We started doing handwriting for morning work. The students will be doing one handwriting page each morning for their morning work.
Students wrote about what they did this summer during writing time. I will collect these as a beginning of the year assessment to see how much they grow as writers by the end of the year.
We talked about our last rule today and then brainstormed ways to be safe at school.
We started our math curriculum today. We talked about the numbers 0,1, and 2. Students acted as number detectives trying to find things in the room that were 0,1, or 2.
We then discussed what math stations are going to look and sound like.
This afternoon we discussed the difference between fake reading and real reading. Students picked two books from my classroom library to put in their book bags.
We will be studying the author Kevin Henkes this week. We started off by watching a short video to meet the author. Then I read the story Chrysanthemem. We discussed the characters, setting, main idea, and lesson learned. Then students worked on an activity about things that make them wilt and bloom.
We started on taking the first grade priority words test. These are 40 words that students should know how to spell by the end of the year. Look for a list coming home by the end of the week. Please study these words with you kiddos from time to time.
We set up our unit studies notebooks and will start on social studies curriculum tomorrow.
