Scotty and I are currently cheering on the Pirates while surrounded by my whole family of Cubs fans. Go Pirates!
We learned about the commutative property of addition or the flip flop fact. The students formed themselves into a number sentence and then flipped the addends. The addends get flipped, but the sum stays the same. We added this strategy to our addition strategies mat.
I then taught the students two games to play for flip flop facts. We played “Go Flip” and memory.
We continued working on our books in writing. The students are doing a great job of using their story hands to write their stories.
For reading groups we worked on sorting pictures based off of their short vowel sound. We also worked on writing a story with a problem. The students practiced using their story hand to include characters, setting, and three details.
For art, we drew FrankenBuddies and then painted them. The students got to add details of their own and they became very creative.
