We started chapter 2 today. At the beginning of every chapter there is a story and a game. I sent those home with them tonight. You can read the story with them and play the game.
During math small groups we worked on joining. I rolled two dice and told them a joining story. The students then made the groups with counters and wrote the number sentence. Once we did that a few times, I then had the students come up with a joining story. An example would be, “There were 5 dogs, 2 more joined them, how many are there in all?” Have your child tell you a joining story tonight.
During writing we continued working on zooming in our writing. At the end the students were given writing partners. These will be there partners for sharing time. The students are to share things they notice about their partner’s writing and ask them questions. We will need to practice this a lot.
Our reading street story this week is The Big Blue Ox. This is about Paul Bunyan’s ox. We watched a Reading Rainbow about Paul Bunyan and lumberjacks.
In reading small groups, we continued work on the short o sound. The students also picked a character picture from a stack, named it, and wrote complete sentences to describe the character.
For art, we worked on our original art. The students did a fabulous job! Those who need to will finish them tomorrow.
