Apples Galore

For math we worked on patterns. We watched a Brainpop Jr. about patterns and then came up with patterns of our own.

In math small groups we played an addition game. It was so cool to see students using strategies they had learned earlier.

We spent some time after math, investigating the apples we brought in. We measured them, drew them, etc.

We also did an apple experiment on how different liquids effect apple slices. We used water, tonic water, lemon juice, soda, and vinegar. We observed them after 2 hours and we will observe them again tomorrow. Most students predicted the soda would effect the apples most.

During small reading groups we read a story about Apple Picking and then discussed the different parts of an apple. IMG_6656 IMG_6657 IMG_6659IMG_6658

We used a lot of different materials to create our art project today. We used oil pastels, water colors, and fabric. We continued our talk of primary and secondary colors. In order to made a green apple the students needed to mix blue and yellow. The bright colors look fantastic together on our art wall.

We will have an NFL day tomorrow. Students can wear their favorite team’s colors or apparel.

Tomorrow is our field trip. Please refer to the note I sent home tonight. A few key notes are to bring a sack lunch, dress appropriately, and if you come to the field trip your child has to ride home on the bus with the class.
